In the third inning of Tuesday night's game between the Padres and Giants, San Francisco's Alyssa Nakken made MLB history when she stepped in to the fill the role of first-base coach.
First woman to hold a full-time coaching position in MLB
Alyssa Nakken previously coached first base during a "summer camp" exhibition game in July of 2020.
Nakken, the first woman to be named a coach on an MLB staff, took her place in the Giants' first-base coaching box in the final innings of an exhibition game against the A's in 2020
On April 12, 2022, she did it again, this time becoming the first female coach in Major League Baseball history to take the field during a game.
In addition to her work on the team's base running and outfield defense, Nakken helps keep things in order for her unusually large staff of 13 coaches
Her ascent through the Giants ranks is part of a growing trend of women earning larger roles in the game
She got a great ovation from the crowd in San Francisco and a nice greeting from Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer
